Competition Declaration Form Policy and Classification of Bands

4-3.1.6 COMPETITION DECLARATION FORM

c. Bands will be assigned a division based on the numbers reported on their Competition Declaration Form. If a band's numbers increase at any time during the season to the point that they are eligible for the next Division, the Band Director is obligated to contact the ABODA Executive Director immediately with the updated numbers.

d. Any band that attends an ABODA qualifying event with a greater number of members than reported on the declaration form (pushing them into the next Division) will result in the score at that event not counting towards qualification for the State Semifinals.

e. All students who are part of the production are included in the overall count of the ensemble. In addition to performers, this includes students moving props on the field during the production, running the soundboard, etc. All students must meet the participation requirements stated in policy 4-3.1.4.

f. Verification of the number of students in ensembles may happen at any competition at the discretion of the Head Judge or Executive Director.

4-3.1.4 ELIGIBILITY

a. Students participating in ABODA Marching Band Competitions must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in a comprehensive public, charter, or private high school. The exception would be if the school has a mixed-level ensemble of grades 6-12. For this type of ensemble to be eligible for ABODA Marching Band Competitions, the ensemble must meet the following criteria.

1. All Students in the ensemble must attend school on the same campus and be enrolled in the same marching band class.

2. The ensemble must have a majority number of students in grades 9-12.

b. If it is found that students who do not attend school on the same campus are in the field, it will result in the score from that event not counting towards qualification for the State Semifinals or Championships. Repeat offenses may result in the disqualification of scores or the ensemble from the State Semi-finals or Championships event. Should this violation occur, administration from the offending district may be informed of the infraction, and no refund will be given. In an effort to remain transparent, if ineligible students were found to have participated in an ABODA competitive event, the ABODA Board may also notify the directors of the schools that participated in that event.

c. ABODA believes that its music festivals and competitions are an extension of the classroom and therefore curricular and support all State and National Music Standards. Student eligibility is to be determined by the local governing body of the participating school.

REQUIRED - All bands participating in ABODA-sanctioned marching band competitions are required to submit a class list along with their declaration form. All bands that participate in a minimum of 1 ABODA Marching Band Invitational and receive a score are eligible to advance to the Arizona State Marching Band Semifinals on 11/7/26.

We will participate in the Arizona State Marching Band Semifinals. By selecting yes, you are automatically registered for the event.

The top 8 bands in each division at the State Marching Band Semifinals will advance to the Arizona State Marching Band Championship on 11/21/26.

If we are in the top 8 in our division, we will participate in the Arizona State Marching Band Championship.
